Children’s behavioral and mental wellbeing is a growing health crisis, and was declared a national emergency in 2021. COVID-19 only exacerbated the issue, and magnified the scarcity of mental health support for kids and the glaring lack of research in child psychiatry. Nearly one in five children has an emotional, behavioral or mental disorder and sadly, only 20% of those diagnosed receive care. Cohen Children’s Medical Center is committed to addressing this crisis head on and creating an entirely new model of behavioral health for children. Funds raised for the Northwell Health Walk will help support the creation of a new physical hub for child and adolescent behavioral health, designed around the needs of kids and teens. Additionally, your funds will help fuel new research and education initiatives that support our most accomplished physicians and researchers who are dedicated to tackling and solving this problem.
Mental health support is essential to overall well-being and a healthy mom means a healthy baby. Your funds will help the Katz Institute provide women with the mental healthcare and resources they need, including programs from pediatric and OB GYN offices to increase depression screenings of postpartum women. Programs will also be made available to educate women in ways to manage common mental health issues, like depression and anxiety. Your funds will also benefit the Innovation Grant Program, which supports projects and innovative research efforts focused on improving women’s health.
